The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is passionate about developing and maintaining strong relationships with experts in the industry. Students in the School of Fashion have had many opportunities to take advantage of such links and expand their experience in the industry, improving their skills and expertise needed in the competitive world of fashion.

  1. UCA at Graduate Fashion Week 2013

Five UCA Fashion students reached final stages of competitions at Graduate Fashion Week, impressing judges with their work.  The students, from our Rochester and Epsom campuses, had their collections showcased on the runway at Earl’s Court in London. The event represents the future in creative talent and gives the students the opportunity for their work to be shown on both a national and an international stage.
  2. Backstage opportunity for students at London Fashion Week

Foundation students from UCA at Farnham gained great work experience of the glamorous world of fashion whilst working backstage at London Fashion Week. A group of 14 pre-degree students enjoyed the fast-paced environment at the four-day international event. Although Rochester and Epsom are better known for UCA’s Fashion courses, the pre-degree students at Farnham are equally encouraged to experience all art and design pathways.
  3. Fashion students given Dr Martens project

BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion students at UCA in Rochester had the fantastic opportunity to style and photograph a collection for major British brand Dr Martens. The best images were uploaded for the world to see via the Dr Martens Facebook page and also an exhibition was held at UCA Rochester’s Zandra Rhodes Gallery. The project tested styling and teamwork skills of the students and is great in terms of their experience and employability.
  4. World's smallest catwalk

UCA graduate Christina created a unique fashion collection for the world’s smallest catwalk, working with River Island and design range, Harumika. Christina spent two weeks with River Island to create mini replicas of the company’s original Chelsea Girl collection. Her work was showcased on a custom-made revolving runway at the Soho Hotel in London and toured internationally at Harumika trade shows.
  5. UCA students guest edit ELLE magazine

Three Fashion students from UCA won the once in a lifetime opportunity to guest edit ELLE, the world’s biggest fashion magazine. The girls had the intern roles of Picture Editor, Art Editor and Features Editor as part of a team of 11 interns who compiled an edition of the magazine as part of the magazine’s Edited by Interns initiative. The initiative nurtures new talent and helps students launch their careers.
