BA (Hons) Fashion Management & Marketing students at UCA Epsom recently welcomed a Visual Merchandiser from Marks & Spencer, Victoria Cloke, for a guest lecture.
Victoria gave students an insight into the world of visual merchandising, and what they could expect if they take up a career in this area of expertise. Having worked in merchandising both here in the UK and in Australia, for companies such as M&S and Topshop, Victoria has a wealth of experience and knowledge, which she shared with the group.
Students heard about the various roles and progression routes available in visual merchandising and Victoria gave tips on great visual merchandising and how to be successful, such as knowing your customer and your stock, refreshing layouts and applying consistent brand messaging throughout.
"Victoria is one of a range of guest lecturers we've welcomed to the course,” said Katherine Boxall, FMM course leader. “Having guests from industry in to talk to the students is invaluable. They had a great insight into visual merchandising from Victoria, helping them to think about whether it might be something they want to pursue a career in. Visual merchandising is just one of the areas that our graduates go on to work in."
