Postgraduate students from the Schools of Fashion and Crafts & Design at UCA Rochester will be exhibiting with students from with ArtEZ Institute of the Arts Arnhem at The Apricot Gallery, London during London Fashion Week and London Design Festival.
The workshop-exhibition, Denim ReMIX, will be held in a customised space in East London. Students from UCA Rochester and ArtEZ will be exhibiting their work on a denim theme, and the open format of the gallery will welcome community groups, including local schools, for one-day projects.
This project builds on the exchange developed in academic year 2012/2013, working with London-based company ReWorks. ReWorks sources surplus garments and textiles in order to sell them onto retailers. A continuous live blog will be streamed onto the web and projected on a wall outside the workshop to inform and entertain the local community and specialized audience during London Fashion Week and London Design Festival.
On 16 September, there will also be a work-in-progress party with a resident DJ and a denim dress code. There will be a closing ceremony on 18 September, which will display finalised project work and include a communal denim dinner.
